The LEAP (Leadership Experience Adventure Program) is designed to enrich Waltham youth entering grades seven, eight, and nine in the basics of Leadership, Role Modeling, and the concept of adventure (self exploration/self challenging and outdoor adventure).
Daily workshops provide youth with information and discussion on the history of leadership, what qualities are important to the youth as a good leader, and who leaders throughout history (positive and negative) are. They also define role model; what characteristics they find important, how they as youth can develop into a positive role model. These lessons are further developed during daily experience within their assigned groups, as part of the Summer Fun at Prospect Hill Program. (Serving Waltham Youth entering grades one through six)
Youth experience the adventure in their daily participation. LEAP participants travel to the Waltham Fire Department to take part in a fire prevention program. They learn basic fire safety as well as having the opportunity to experience a fire department training facility. Youth are encouraged (challenge by choice) to learn how to use safety equipment, and learn the basic use of fire hoses.
