Applying for a permit with the City of Waltham Wires Department

Requirements for pulling a permit:

  • Filled out copy of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts permit for Electrical Work (copy enclosed on this website)
  • Copy of a valid Massachusetts Electrical License 
  • Copy of an active Certificate of Liability policy

Methods of pulling permits:

IN PERSON:

Monday through Friday 7:30am-4:30pm at Government Center (119 School Street) in Room 12.

There is also a gray mailbox labeled "Government Center mail" at the main entrance of the building for drop offs after hours.

Applications and supporting documentation can be emailed to wirepermits@city.waltham.ma.us

Applications will not be processed until payment is received.

Description of Services

The Wires Department is responsible for the following:

  • Maintenance of all traffic signals.
  • Installation and maintenance of the Municipal Fire Alarm system which consists of over 600 fire alarm boxes and over 80 miles of fire alarm cable.
  • Maintenance of the city fiber optic cable network.
  • Performing all electrical work within municipal buildings.
  • Installation of the Christmas lights.
  • Maintenance of all the cities radio system.
  • Performing all electrical inspections for any electrical work performed within the City of Waltham.
