Winter Street & Lincoln Street Utility and Roadway Improvements Project

Update 4/12/2024:

N. Granese Schedule for Next Week: 4/15 – 4/19.  Note crews will be working Monday 4/15

Lincoln St:

The curbing crew has completed the curbing for Lincoln St and will begin preparations to pour the sidewalks.  They will begin working on sidewalks between Winter St and Sanderson Rd.  Please note that This portion of Lincoln St will be closed and open to immediate abutting residents only.  Note that while it is open to abutting residents, there will be traffic delays getting through the work zone so please leave yourselves extra time while traveling.  We are hoping to complete sidewalks between Winter St and Sanderson St by the end of the week and would move to the other side of Sanderson Rd the following week.  Please note that we will be replacing the driveway aprons for those of you on the south side of the roadway (even house #’s) with concrete aprons.  There will be periods while we are pouring concrete and the concrete cures that you will not be able to use your driveway.  A paper flyer will be delivered to your homes on Monday with additional information.

Piety Corner Rd:

Crews will begin hooking houses up to the temporary water main.  They will also begin excavating access pits over the water main.  There will be minimal traffic delays associated with this.  We anticipate beginning cleaning and lining the water main the following week.

Winter St (Lincoln St to Dead End):

After connections on Piety Corner Rd are made, the crew will begin hooking up homes along Winter St to the temporary water main.

Winter St (Totten Pond Rd to Wyman St):

Crews will continue installing temporary water main along this stretch of the roadway.

Updates on Other Projects:

National Grid:

It has been confirmed that National Grid needs to replace their gas main along Lincoln St from Lexington St to approximately #114 Lincoln St.  They are going to schedule themselves to mobilize to the area after Granese completes the sidewalk work.  They will be using the same traffic patterns Granese has been using during their work.  I will stay in touch with their construction supervisor and provide updates on their work as best I can.  National Grid’s schedule is 10-12 weeks to complete their work once started.  Once they are complete, we will have N. Granese come back to do the final paving of Lincoln St.  National Grid is saying that their mains need to be replaced now so we are adjusting this schedule to prevent them from digging up a brand-new roadway next year.  Residents along Lincoln St between Lexington St and #114 Lincoln St who do not currently have a gas service but would like one are encouraged to read the attached brochure from National Grid and Contact Erin Kearney at Erin.Kearney@nationalgrid.com.

Please note that all construction schedules are tentative and subject to change.  They are especially weather dependent. If there are any questions or concerns, please email jmartino@city.waltham.ma.us at any time.  If there are immediate concerns, you may call the Engineering Department at 781-314-3830.  For after hour emergencies, call 781-893-3700.

Project Description:

This project will consist of installation of new water main, cleaning and lining existing water mains, various sewer and drain rehabilitation along Winter St, Lincoln St, and Piety Corner Rd.  The roadway portion of this work will include roadway and sidewalk repaving of Winter St in its entirety and a portion of Lincoln St including new sidewalks from Lexington St to Winter St.  Please see the attached map for a overview of the proposed work.

The City has awarded this project N. Granese & Sons, Inc. of Salem, MA.  It is anticipated that utility construction will begin January 2024.  Roadway repaving will occur after utility work has been completed.

The City will be sending out regular email updates to residents.  In order to sign up for these updates please send an email to jmartino@city.waltham.ma.us to be added to the distribution list.

Should you have any questions, you can call us at 781-314-3830 or e-mail at jmartino@city.waltham.ma.us.

Trash & recycling will be picked up on the regularly scheduled day during construction.  There may be times where trash and recycling pick up first thing in the morning to avoid conflicts with construction activity.  Please make sure that your trash and recycling is placed curbside by 7:00am on the day of pick up to ensure collection.
