The mission of the Fire Prevention Division is to promote life safety and property protection through inspection services, public education and enforcement of fire safety laws and codes for all those who work and reside in the City of Waltham. |
Specifically, this branch of the department enforces all of the Commonwealth's fire prevention laws as written in the Massachusetts General Laws (MGL) Chapter 148. Waltham Fire Prevention also enforces the Massachusetts Comprehensive Fire Safety Code 527 CMR. The purpose and intent of 527 CMR is to prescribe minimum requirements and controls to safeguard life, property and public welfare from the hazards of fire and explosion created by the storage, handling, or use of substances, materials, or devices, or from conditions hazardous to life, property, and the public welfare. The Division also manages all record keeping for the Waltham Fire Department.
