Occupancy & Facility Inspections

The Waltham Fire Prevention and Suppression Divisions work together to complete inspections of various buildings throughout the City of Waltham.  Fire Prevention takes the lead role in administering the inspections of the following facilities as mandated by state law:

• Hospitals
• Nursing Homes
• Lodging Houses
• Day Cares
• Schools
• Hotels
• Residences 

 
Additionally, Fire Prevention inspects assembly use occupancies such as theaters and sport arenas. The Fire Department also works with the Building Department to perform annual Liqour License Inspections.

The Fire Prevention Bureau also conducts inspections of all occupancies for which a building permit has been issued. These inspections are conducted to ensure compliance with the approved construction documents and all state laws, codes and local ordinances prior to issuance of a certificate of occupancy by the building department.
