Firefighting History

While every fire is tragic and causes major impact to some person, there have been many fires in our nation's history that have been so bad that they have led to changes in our building codes, the way we live our lives or the way we fight fires. Below is a list of some of those fires.

  • Cocoanut Grove Fire - Boston, MA - November 28, 1942 (492 lives lost and 166 injured)
  • Beverly Hills Supper Club fire - Southgate, Kentucky - May 28, 1977 (165 lives lost and more than 200 injured)
  • Station Nightclub fire - West Warwick, Rhode Island - February 20, 2003 (100 lives lost and 230 injured)
  • Worcester Cold Storage Warehouse fire - Worcester, MA - December 3, 1999 (6 Firefighters Killed)
  • September 11th Terrorist Attacks - NYC, Washington DC and PA - September 11, 2001 (More than 3000 lives lost, including 343 FDNY firefighters, and more than 6000 injured)
