WFD Announces 3 Promotions & Hiring of 6 New Firefighters

New Firefighters to be Sworn In and Promotions Honored at City Council Chambers Tuesday March 20th at 4pm

The Waltham Fire Department announces three internal promotions and the hiring of six new firefighters Monday, March 19, 2012.  Andrew R. Mullin was promoted to Deputy Fire Chief, Richard G. Grant was promoted to Fire Captain and Damon J. Ferranti was promoted to Fire Lieutenant.  These promotions follow the official appointment of Paul J. Ciccone to Fire Chief - Chief of Department last week.

Deputy Fire Chief Mullin was appointed to the Waltham Fire Department in July 1999, promoted to Lieutenant November 2004, promoted to Captain February 2008 and made temporary Deputy November 2011.  He currently commands the WFD Training Division.

Fire Captain Grant was appointed to the Waltham Fire Department in July 1999, promoted to Lieutenant November 2004 and made temporary Captain November 2011.  He is currently Captain of Rescue 6.

Fire Lieutenant Ferranti was appointed to the Waltham Fire Department in June 2004 and made temporary Lieutenant August 2011.  He is currently Lieutenant of Engine 1, Fire Suppression Group 1.

The following firefighters were hired to fill openings created by recent retirements:

  • Ronald J. Gautreau – Age 26
  • Jeffrey H. MacDonald – Age 30
  • William D. MacDonald – Age 32
  • Michael S. Mahoney – Age 32
  • Sean P. McGurrin II – Age 23
  • Daniel F. Veduccio – Age 32

Firefighter William D. MacDonald comes to Waltham from the Lincoln Fire Department and has already completed the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy.  He is currently assigned to Fire Suppression, Group 1 at Moody Street Station.  The other five firefighters are all currently assigned to the Training Division.  Those five will begin the Basic Recruit (Firefighter I and Firefighter II Certification) program at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy in Stow, MA on April 2, 2012.  All recruits must successfully complete the MFA program within their 1-year probationary period.

The new firefighters were officially sworn in as members of the Department at a special ceremony Tuesday, March 20, 2012 in the Waltham City Council Chambers at 4:00 pm.  Officials also honored and recognized the three officer promotions noted above.
