Waltham Community Electricity has been Renewed through December 2025 - New Program prices start December 2023
Waltham Community Electricity, the City’s electricity supply program operating since 2021, has been renewed with new pricing through November 2025. The program’s current electricity supply contract expires in December 2023. Updated program pricing is available on our website: Waltham-CEA.com. Most participants do not need to take any action to remain in the program and receive the new pricing for the product in which they are currently enrolled.
The electricity market and regulatory costs have changed since our first contract was signed in May 2021, and the new prices are rising to reflect current market conditions. These renewal rates will be valid from December 2023 through November 2025. Although the prices will be higher than current prices, they will still be lower than Eversource’s current residential Basic Service price.
The voluntary renewable energy content in our Program’s optional product comes from projects that qualify as MA Class I renewables and makes a sizable impact on the City’s carbon footprint. Since Waltham Community Electricity’s launch in 2021, participants have cumulatively purchased 36,300 MWh of renewable energy. This equates to avoiding over 27,515,400 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions cumulatively. Over 24,500 accounts participate in the program, a vast majority of the City’s residential, commercial, and industrial electricity users. Participants have collectively saved more than $22,600,000 since the program’s launch in 2021.
The new program price will first appear on January 2024 Eversource electric bills, and the electricity supplier will be listed as “City of Waltham WCE – Direct Energy”. This is a City-operated program open to all Waltham residents and businesses.
