Waltham's Wayside Trail Project

wt

Project Overview:

  • The proposed Waltham Wayside Trail is part of the regional 23-mile Wayside trail and greater statewide MCRT. As part of the 104-mile Mass Central Rail Trail which traverses east-west across the State, the Waltham portion of Wayside Trail will be about 4.2 miles from the Weston to the Belmont border.
  • The City of Waltham has awarded the Waltham Wayside Trail construction project to E.T. & L Corp. The contractors will be working throughout the corridor more and more in coming weeks to prepare the site and building the multi-use bituminous trail. Please respect the closure of the State-owned corridor for the duration of the trail construction and will reopen with the project’s ribbon cutting. Updates on the project will be shared on social media and the project website.
  • Project was bid and awarded to E.T & L. Corp. Click here for plans
  • There are (3) segments to the Waltham Wayside Trail: Weston to 1265 Main Street, 1265 Main Street to Beaver Street and Beaver Street to Belmont.
  • The City has a professional services contract to design and engineer the middle segment which is approximately 2.75 miles long.
  • The Commonwealth of Massachusetts owns the ROW for the Waltham Wayside Trail. It is the Department of Conservation and Recreation who will be responsible for the maintenance of the trail once it is constructed.
  • DCR and MassDOT are leading efforts on the Belmont and Weston connections. Updates on those connections and the overall Wayside Trail and can be found on Mass Central Rail Trail & an interactive trail map can be found here
