USE CAUTION! Freezing temps are expected today, resulting in icy road conditions throughout the day

Please use extreme caution if traveling today, and make sure to follow these safety tips:

  • Heavy slush/ice can cause downed wires and tree branches. Should you need to report any downed wires/trees, power outages, road blockages, etc, please refer to this list of whom to call for various needs
  • Please remember to check on your neighbors and gather a quick list of essential needs to ensure safety amongst yourself, your family, and your pets. It is always a good idea to keep electronics charged and have flashlights/candles handy in the event of an emergency or power outage.
  • If you need to go out today, please slow down and keep a clear stopping distance between other vehicles (at least 600ft - see graphic below)
  • Make sure all the vents to your home are clear of any snow / ice, especially any overhanging gas meters, furnaces, and other gas appliance vents. Falling ice and snow can damage this equipment and result in a gas leak or deadly gas build up. Use caution and use a brush or broom (take immediate action anytime you suspect a natural gas leak).
  • check on the hydrants and storm drains located close to your businesses and your homes. The Waltham Fire Department is responsible for shoveling out hydrants and the Public Works Department responsible for clearing storm drains, however with thousands of hydrants and storm drains located throughout the city, it's impossible for them to get to all of them at once. Help us help you and keep them clear.
