WFD Meets With Students at WHS Career Fair

Kids Learn How to Pursue Career in the Fire Service

Monday - March 12, 2012

The Waltham Fire Department met with students at Waltham High School on Monday, March 12, 2012 during the school's annual career fair.  Interested students learned about careers in the fire service, including how to sign up for and prepare to take the State's Civil Service Firefighter Entrance Exam (both written and physical tests).  They also learned about the interview process and psychological exam.  They also saw much of the equipment used on the job and gear worn by firefighters.

Members of WFD's Fire Prevention office staffed the information table and answered questions about the job.  During the visit, WFD staff also explained how firefighters must complete an extensive 12-week training program at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy in Stow, MA during their first year on the job.
