Chief Ciccone Officially Takes Command of Department with Unanimous City Council Approval

Chief Paul J. Ciccone, a 27-Year WFD Veteran, Begins New Era for Waltham Fire Department

The Waltham City Council voted 14-0 on Monday night (March 12, 2012) to approve Mayor Jeannette McCarthy’s appointment of Paul J. Ciccone to the position of Chief of Department of the Waltham Fire Department.

Chief Ciccone is a 27-year veteran of the Waltham Fire Department and has risen through the ranks – holding various positions in the WFD’s Suppression and Training Divisions.  Chief Ciccone started as a firefighter with the department in November of 1985. He was promoted to Lieutenant in March of 1991, promoted to Captain in June of 2002 and promoted to Deputy Chief in August of 2009.  Most recently, he served as the Deputy Chief in charge of the Training Division before being appointed as Chief of Department.

Chief Ciccone replaces Chief Richard Cardillo who retired in July of 2011.  Deputy Chief Michael J. Quinn had been serving as Acting Chief since September of 2011 and he now returns to his post as commander of Fire Suppression Division Group 2.
