CEDARWOOD PLAYGROUND

Neighborhood Park, completely renovated in 2015. Park amenities include: children’s play structures, combined street hockey/basketball court area, exercise stations, sledding hill, walking path, open green space, shade canopy, neighborhood community garden area, drinking fountain, picnic tables, park benches, and solar trash receptacles.  All facilities will be ADA accessible.  

Time available to the public:

Year round - dawn to dusk.

Annual Neighborhood Association reserves park to host neighborhood gathering in June each year. 

 
BOBBY CONNORS PLAYGROUND

Renamed the Bobby Connors Playground since June 2001 (formally known as Roberts Playground).  Neighborhood park with large children’s play area, basketball court, and small baseball/softball field.  Lower level athletic field is utilized by recreational groups for informal baseball/softball games.

Time available to the public:
Facilities are open year round dawn to dusk.

 
CHEMISTRY PARK
 Location:110 Pine Street

Small neighborhood passive recreation area with shade shelter, picnic tables, game tables, park benches, and open green space.                                                                                

 
DRAKE PLAYGROUND
2.16 AcresLocation:3 Hazel Street, across from Plympton Elementary School
 

Plympton Elementary School's outdoor play area.  Neighborhood park was renovated in 2016.  The facility includes children's play structure and zip line, basketball court, walking path, youth athletic field for baseball/softball, and water spray facility.

Year round, dawn to dusk, during non school hours

Spray park facility -

Monday - Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Saturdays/Sundays, 12:00 - 5:00 p.m.  June - August

 
JAMES P. FALZONE MEMORIAL PARK

Newly constructed synthetic turf multi-purpose athletic field opened in the fall of 2015.  Completely renovated park includes new athletic field, drainage improvements, parking lot improvements and development, site amenities, and connection to natural walking paths in surrounding open space properties

FITCH SPRAY PARK

Spray park facility - Monday - Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Saturdays/Sundays, 12:00 - 5:00 p.m.

PETER GILMORE PLAYGROUND
1.35 AcresLocation:90 Hall Street, corner of High Street

Capital improvements were completed in 2017.  Neighborhood Playground includes; Futsol/Basketball combo court, adult fitness area, perimeter walkway, gaming tables and small picnic area. 

 

Time available to the public:
No permits required to use facilities. Year round, dawn to dusk.

 
GRAVERSON PLAYGROUND
4.44 AcresLocation:16 Pine Vale Rd; corner of Trapelo Rd

Neighborhood park with lighted basketball court, two (2) lighted tennis courts, small soccer field, little league baseball diamond and small parking area.  

 

Time available to the public:

Facilities are open dawn to dusk, year round. Tennis and Basketball courts are lit until 10:00 p.m. mid May through mid September.

 
HILLCROFT PLAYGROUND

Small neighborhood playground area with 1/2 basketball court.

"JACK" KOUTOUJIAN PLAYGROUND
11.09 AcresLocation:901 Moody St, beside Burger King Restaurant

Dedicated the Jack Koutoujian Playground in the Fall of 1997 (formally known as the Moody Street Playground). Youth softball field, basketball court, play structure, and skate park.  Major improvements to entire site in 1999 and 2000 including skate park which opened in the Fall of 2000.

 

Time available to the public: Facilities are open year round, dawn to dusk.

 
LAZAZZERO PLAYGROUND
4.30 AcresLocation:7 Shore Road, corner of Lake St, beside Hardy Pond

Neighborhood park abutting Hardy Pond with lighted basketball court, water spray facility, and (2) little league baseball fields. Baseball fields are the home fields for Waltham Baseball League running programs spring/summer/fall months.  New Water Spray Park constructed in 2008.  Park improvements including; fishing pier and boat ramp to Hard Pond, new children’s play structure, basketball court, perimeter walk way, site amenities, landscaping, drainage, and parking lot were opened in 2013  The Fishing Pier was dedicated to Patricia DiIeso.  The Walk way was dedicated in September of 2014.

With the exception of little league use, and summer season of water park, all other facilities are open to the public dawn to dusk.

LOGAN PARK

Small neighborhood park with children’s play equipment.  Renovations to this Park were under taken in 2010 and again in 2013 with CDGB  funds.

LOWELL FIELD

Community recreational facility for soccer, softball, basketball, tennis, walking path, water spray facility and parking areas.  Master Plan Improvements occurred 1997 to 2002.  Waltham's first water spray park opened in July of 2002.

MSGR. MCCABE/WARRENDALE PLAYGROUND
4.86 AcresLocation90 Charlotte Road, behind Fitzgerald Elementary School

Fitzgerald Elementary School's outdoor play area.  Neighborhood park with little league baseball fields, basketball court, (2) lighted tennis courts, and parking.  Baseball fields are home fields for Waltham's Warrendale Little League during the spring/summer/fall months. 

 

Improvements to recreational facilities from 2007-2008, were completed at the same time as the new school was constructed.  Additional Capital Improvements including the addition of a water spray park, (2) tennis courts, basketball court, Little League baseball field, batting cage and pitchers warming up area, baseball field improvements

MCDONALD PLAYGROUND

Small neighborhood park with playground area, spray park facility and multi basketball courts. Major improvements to recreational facilities occurred from 2000-2003, with a new water spray park opened in 2003.

MCKENNA PLAYGROUND
.15 AcresLocation:10 Whitcomb Street, off Elm Street
 

Neighborhood playground with lighted major league baseball field home of Waltham Babe Ruth League.  Utilized by Waltham High School and Babe Ruth League during spring/summer months.   Area also has (2) lighted basketball courts, small children’s play structure and parking area.   Renovations to the field and basketball court completed in 2008.  Another phase of improvements addressing drainage, parking and open green space were completed in 2014.

Spring/Summer Waltham High School, April - June; Babe Ruth League, April - September

 

Time available to the public:
With the exception of permits for the baseball field, all other facilities are open year round, dawn to dusk. Lighted basketball court is open until 10:00 p.m. mid May through mid September.

 
NIPPER MAHER PARK
18.50 AcresLocation:65 Dartmouth Street, off South Street

 

Community recreational facility complete with lighted major league baseball field utilized by Waltham High School baseball teams, and adult baseball leagues.  Area also has (3) little league fields, home fields for Waltham Baseball League during the spring/summer/fall months, playground area, lighted basketball court, (3) lighted tennis courts and parking areas.  Onsite is a small maintenance garage, public restrooms, and (2) concession stand/press box buildings.  Ongoing capital improvements occurred from 2002 – 2014.  The final phase of improvements was completed in 2014 which include water drainage improvements and a new children’s play area with water spray elements.

 

A master plan of capital improvements was developed and implemented beginning in 2002.  The final phase was completed in 2014, with the addition of water spray elements, water drainage improvements, permanent walkway, improvements to children’s play structure, landscaping, tree plantings, park benches and the addition of the Brain Trail. This early learning activity based trail encourages mental and physical learning in a fun environment.  It was funded in collaboration with the United Way and Sallie Mae.

Small neighborhood park with completely renovated with new children’s play structure and open green space.  Picnic tables, park benches, landscaping, and safety fencing.  Park reopened in spring of 2015

PROSPECT HILL PARK

Regional community park of natural woodlands with over 250 acres of undeveloped land, for passive recreation.  Park includes picnic sites, walking trails and scenic vistas of Boston's skyline and mountains in the west.  Base area includes: Former Ski Lodge Building, picnic area, mini golf course and children's playground.  

Permits issued - reserving specified field(s)/facilities:
Summer: Waltham Recreation Department Summer Fun Program held on site, June - August

Picnic permits are required for organized activities, otherwise picnic areas available on a first-come first-serve basis.  Picnic sites can be reserved- May through October

THOMPSON PLAYGROUND
 Location:95 Charles Street
 

Small neighborhood playground area with basketball court area, children's play structure and water spray facility.  Water spray facility opened June 2005.

Spray Park: June - Aug: Monday - Friday 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Saturdays/Sundays 12:00 - 5:00 p.m. 
 
VETERANS MEMORIAL ATHLETIC FIELD COMPLEX
25 AcresLocation:385 Forest Street
 

Waltham's multi use athletic fields, field house building and parking lot for 250 vehicles.  (4) synthetic turf fields opened in the fall of 2005 with (2) natural softball fields opened late summer 2006.  Fields utilized primarily by Waltham High School athletic teams, Waltham Youth Soccer Association, and other sport organizations. Field House building opened in  2008.

Permits are required to use fields by organized groups
Availability for varying days and times maybe limited throughout the seasons.

Time available to the public:
Most mornings the facility is available to general public. Vehicle access closed December through early March.

 
VETERANS MEMORIAL SKATING RINK
 Location:295 Totten Pond Road
 

Leased from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts's DCR (Department of Conservation and Recreation) Veterans Memorial Rink is open Mid September through Mid April. Ice is utilized by: Waltham High School , local youth hockey association, local colleges, and local adult hockey groups, and other private organizations. Public Skating and Stick and Puck hours are scheduled throughout the winter months.

CORNELIA WARREN PARK
4.84 AcresLocation:210 Waverley Oaks Road, at the corner of Beaver Street
 

Multi-purpose lighted athletic field for adult softball and youth football.  Utilized by adult softball league during the spring/summer month.  Field is also utilized for numerous charitable organizations for fund raising events.

Spring/Summer: Men's Adult Softball, May - September
