Some typical red flags to look out for:

• Contractor scammers usually go door-to-door looking for business

• They claim they are doing work in your neighborhood and they will work on your house for a deal since they are already in the area

• They claim to have extra materials left over from another job, which they will use at your house for a cheaper price

• They are pushy. They try to make you decide quickly and offer you deals on the spot

• They either provide no contract or a contract with barely any information about the job

• They only do cash sales

• They ask you to pay the entire amount or large amounts for materials and labor upfront

• They offer deals that seem to be too good to be true

• They have trucks or vehicles with no business name on the doors or trunk
