We love all of our furry friends here in Waltham and we encourage pet parents to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather with them! We understand pet parents want the freedom of letting their pups roam, but as a reminder there are leash laws in Waltham.

Per City of Waltham General Ordinances Chapter 3, Art.II, all dogs are required to be on a leash. No dog shall be permitted in any street or public place within the city unless it is effectively restrained by a chain or leash not to exceed 10 feet in length. You can read the full ordinance here

Beyond protecting other dogs, owners & kids, leashes also keep you and your dog safe. Looking for a place where your dog can play off-leash? Here are some local options with designated off-leash areas:

  • Waltham Dog Ranch - Located on Metropolitan Parkway, off Trapelo Road
  • Howe Park in neighboring Watertown
  • Danehy Dog Park in neighboring Cambridge
  • Cat Rock Park in neighboring Weston – Resident only parking on the weekends
