Please make sure you're prepared - Limit exposure outdoors, check on your neighbors, and take proactive steps to prevent frozen pipes. As always, refer to our Winter Weather Center for any related alerts, as well as a list of whom to call for various needs.

Here is a list of some additional tips & resources:

  • See a full list of Boston's Warming Shelters here. Anyone seeking shelter from the cold can also call 2-1-1 from any phone in MA to find warming centers closest to them.
  • Locally, the City of Waltham has a plan in place and have proactively reached out to all agencies who normally interface our homeless community. Additionally, our Waltham Police homeless task force will be on patrol offering those in need indoor shelter. You can contact the Police Department's non-emergency line at (781) 893-3700 should you need assistance. As always, please call 9-1-1 in any emergency situation.
  • You can prevent freezing pipes by letting hot and cold water faucets drip a trickle, and open cupboards under sinks to let heat circulate around the pipes.
  • Keep outside furnace, hot water and dryer vents clear of snow/ice to prevent gases from backing up into the home and creating a carbon monoxide or fire hazard.
  • Remember, space heaters need their space. Do not place them next to or near any flammable objects. Do not use your oven for heat & do not use any type of grills indoor, as they can pose a serious risk of CO poisoning.
  • Limit exposure outdoors for pets.
