2023 Nomination papers are now available in the City Clerks Office in City Hall (610 Main Street)

Thinking of running for office? The first step to running & getting your name on the ballot is to gather the required number of signatures (50) of registered Waltham voters on nomination papers. A registered voter may only sign a candidate’s nomination papers once. Once the signatures are gathered, the nomination papers are submitted to the Waltham City Clerk's Office for certification. If the required number of signatures is certified, the candidate will then appear on the ballot. Candidates must be: 18 years or older, live in Waltham, be registered to vote.

Candidates wishing to obtain nomination papers may visit the City Clerks Office in City Hall at 610 Main St, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You may also contact the Clerk’s Office at 781-314-3120 or email cityclerks@city.waltham.ma.us. The last day and hour to file nomination papers for all offices is June 30th, 2023 by 5:00pm

  • Mayor (elect 1)
  • Councillors-at-Large (elect 6)
  • Ward Councillors (elect 9)
  • School Committee members (elect 3/6)

  • Nomination papers available - May 3, 2023
  • Last day to file nomination papers - June 30, 2023
  • Last day to file Statement of Candidacy  - July 14, 2023
  • List of Candidates will be posted - July 17, 2023
  • Last day to withdraw - July 21, 2023
  • Last day to register to vote in Preliminary Election - September 2, 2023
  • Preliminary Election - September 12, 2023
  • Last day to withdraw - September 18, 2023
  • Last day to register to vote in Municipal Election - October 28, 2023
  • Municipal Election - November 7, 2023
  • Inauguration Day - January 7, 2024
