Strides for Education 5k and Kids Fun Run is taking place on May 5th! It’s a fundraiser for the Waltham Education and Beyond Foundation (WEBF), and it’s actually a city-sponsored event so maybe you already know a bit about this. We are building on the 9-year tradition established by the Moody Street 5k, bringing together the Waltham community for a fun, healthy, family-oriented activity. We anticipate approximately 1,200 participants and many more spectators to attend, and we’ll be following the race course starting and ending at the Moody Street bridge. We will be holding a 1k Kids Fun Run at 11am beginning at Shoppers Cafe and ending at the Moody Street bridge, then the 5k will start at 12pm, and we’ll have a post-race celebration and awards at Shoppers after the 5k.

The mission of WEBF is to provide students with a higher level of educational opportunity beyond what is available through the school budget, and this event aims to raise funds to support this mission. The “One School, One Story” program at Waltham High School, Model UN programs in our middle schools, Honors Band and Chorus programs district-wide, and the establishment of the Robohawks robotics team are just a few examples of the meaningful and substantial impact that WEBF has had on our Waltham Public Schools district. We actually have a special project happening on Monday where we are providing eclipse glasses for all elementary students in Waltham Public Schools so that they can safely view the eclipse!
