Leary Field Renovation Project

Estimated completion date: Phase 1 August 2023 & Phase 2 November 2023

The City of Waltham is now conducting improvement renovations to Leary and Yetten Fields located at 19 Athletic Field Road in Waltham, MA. The scope of construction work and design recommendations includes:

  • replacement of lights
  • resurface of 400 meter track (with field events)
  • replacement of fields with artificial turf
  • a synthetic turf baseball field, a field house building with lockers & restrooms
  • 1,000 seat grandstand with press box & lift
  • parking lot expansion, and more

This project was divided into two phases. The completion date for the Leary Field side of the project (including football field, track, and stands) will be August 2023. The completion date for the entire project (including Yetten baseball fields) is set for the end of November 2023.

    • Football Field Turf - ongoing, near complete
    • Installation of footings for Walking Path Lights - ongoing
    • Installation of scoreboard Footings - Complete (Scoreboards are scheduled for last week in May)
    • Exterior Walls - ongoing
    • Exterior Fencing - ongoing
    • Bacon Street Sidewalk and Curbing - Scheduled for June 19th
    • Completion of paving on Track and Bacon St, and parking lot binder - Scheduled for June 5th
    • Completion of Rubber Track - Scheduled for after July 4th

          Baseball Field Activity (Phase 2):

    • Exterior Turf Curbing and Drainage - ongoing

    • Bacon Street sidewalk installation - awaiting curbing
    • Exterior wall construction - ongoing

    • Parking lot drainage and curbing - ongoing
    • Home and Away stands and Pressbox - complete
    • All Hazardous material is offsite to date - complete
    • Waterline being installed - ongoing
    • Athletic Equipment being delivered for installation (Long Jump, Goal Posts, Shot Put, Foul Poles etc) - ongoing

    The City of Waltham is now conducting improvement renovations to Leary and Yetten Fields located at 19 Athletic Field Road in Waltham, MA. Please be advised that Leary Field will be closed and use of the track will not be available during construction.
