How to Create a Picnic Reservation

  • To Reserve a Pavilion - See: Permits and Request forms
  • Scroll down to #3 Picnic Reservations
  • Click to Reserve a Picnic Pavilion
  • Log into Activenet account  - if you do not have an Activenet account, please click Create an Account 
  • Click on Reservation (Top left on Page)
  • Select the pavilion you are interested in
  • Scroll down to the calendar.
    • Select the date you are interested in reserving.
    • Choose the time block available that best meets your needs
    • Click on Apply
  • Add in the total number of attendees – please note that reservations can have up to 25 attendees.
    • Click Proceed
  • Enter Event Details
    • Pull down family member reserving
    • Type in Event Name
    • Pull down Event Type
      • Select Picnic Reservations
  • Confirm details (date, time and location)

Waiver and Information

  • Click that you have read and agree to the Picnic Permit information
  • Click Reserve
  • Complete Payment information
  • Save/print a copy of the picnic permit, if there are any questions during the scheduled time.

Picnic Permit Policy

  • Organized groups are only allowed at permitted locations.  Organized groups/activities are not permitted without a permit or Waltham Recreation Department approval.
  • Picnic Permits are a four-hour reservation.
  • Maximum number of guests for a picnic reservation is limited to 25 individuals.
  • No alcohol or drug use on City of Waltham property.
  • Barbecue grills, located at Prospect Hill Park’s Base area are available for cooking. 
  • No open fires or grilling is allowed at any park throughout the City of Waltham. 
  • A comfort station (environmentally friendly restroom) is located at the Prospect Hill Park’s Summer House as well as in the Base Area. Seasonal portable bathrooms will be available at other locations where picnic permits are available. 
  • Groups are responsible for removing their own trash from the picnic areas and leaving the area clean for the next group. 
  • Picnic Permits are issued between April and October. 

Residents can make a reservations maximum of two months in advance(ex. September 15th for a November 15th) and must be booked a minimum of five days prior online by visiting: https://www.city.waltham.ma.us/recreation-department/pages/permits-request-forms 

Groups larger than 25 individuals can send a letter of request for a special event to the Waltham Recreation Director. 

Once a picnic permit is issued, no refunds will be given.  An alternate date may be available, only if the event is cancelled due to inclement weather.  It is the responsibility of the permit holder to notify the Recreation Department, by the next business day, to be eligible for an alternate date.

The Director of Recreation, reserves the right to reject permit requests due to previous misconduct.
