Chill Zone Information

 

Introduction

The goal of the Chill Zone is to provide opportunities for recreation, socialization and education to Waltham youth in grades six, seven, and eight in a safe and supervised environment.  Youth are also strongly encouraged to have a say in what activities are offered through the Chill Zone. 

The Chill Zone also offers opportunities for leadership development to former members in grades 9 and 10.      

Membership Information

The Chill Zone is a free program.  Some special events and field trip will require a fee and registration.  All youth and their parents must complete a registration form IN PERSON AT THE RECREATION DEPT. and sign the Chill Zone code of conduct before they are allowed to participate.

Hours of Operation

The Chill Zone will be open Friday’s from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday’s from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Mid September-June.  There will be a separate calendar of special events for each month available at the Recreation Department and online.  Hours are subject to change.  The Chill Zone observes City and national Holidays.  Hours during school vacation weeks are subject to change. 

Sign In/Sign Out Procedure

For the safety of everyone that participates in the Chill Zone, a picture ID card is required.  When entering and before participating in any activity; all youth are required to scan their ID card in the Main Office.   Youth must scan their ID cards prior to leaving as well.  Youth are allowed to enter once per day.  There will be no entrance into the chill zone during the last hour of operation on Friday and Saturday evenings; 8:00-9:00 Fridays, 7:00-8:00 Saturdays.

ID Cards

Youth are provided with a picture ID card when the registration is completed.  ID’s must be scanned in the Main Office when youth arrives and departs.  There is a $1 charge for a replacement ID card. 

Bikes/Scooters

A bike rack is located on the Alder Street entrance to the building.  Please remember to lock up your bikes.

Dress Code

The Waltham Recreation Department follows the School Departments requirements for dress.  Please consult your student handbook for specifics. 

Food

Food and drinks are ONLY permitted in designated areas.  Snacks are sold in the Chill Zone office and Skate n Scoot room (occasionally) for your convenience. We will have pizza and other items available to purchase beginning at $1 for a pizza slice, up to $7 for a large sub.  Please notify the staff of any food allergies. 

Bags and Personal Belongings

The Waltham Recreation Department staff is not responsible for lost or stolen property. Please do not bring any valuable items to the school.  Cell phones are permitted in designated areas.  Please be courteous and not use them during organized activities.
