WFD Gears Up For Fire Prevention Week With School Visits and Open House


The Waltham Fire Department is joining the rest of the country and gearing up for National Fire Prevention Week, which is October 8th-14th, 2017You can see a short history of National Fire Prevention Week here. * Note - Due to the Columbus Day Holiday on Monday, October 8th, the city will be participating in National Fire Prevention Week the following week, October 16th-20th. During Fire Prevention week, WFD will be sending its S.A.F.E. (Student Awareness of Fire Education) teaching team into all Waltham public and private elementary schools to teach vital fire and life safety lessons to kids in grades K-3. Safety lessons focus on basic fire & safety tips that can be learned by everyone: React to smoke alarms, practice home escape plans, and know where your exits are no matter where you go. Our S.A.F.E. team instructors include: Lt. Garry Jackson, F.F. Tom Leard, F.F. Chuck Vinciulla, F.F. Matt Giardina & F.F. Joe Pino. The S.A.F.E. team will visit a school each morning and afternoon. The schedule will go as follows:

Waltham Fire will also host its annual OPEN HOUSE on Sunday October 22nd, 2017, from 1pm to 4pm at Headquarters/Central Station 175 Lexington Street. The event will feature free pizza from Papa Ginos, beverages, snacks and tours of the station and apparatus. Patches the fire dog will also be on hand. See the flyer attached below.
