WFD Continues Response to Hurricane Sandy Damage

Crews Handle More Than 120 Calls Since Onset of Storm

Tuesday - October 30, 2012

The Waltham Fire Department continues to respond to calls and damage as a result of Hurricane Sandy.  The majority of the calls have been down wires and trees/treelimbs.  Some have involved trees damaging structures.  1105 Lexington Street had two buildings (# 8 & # 11) where wind blew portions of the roof off and 25 residents had to be evacuated.  There has also been some minor flooding in areas.

The Department is uring residents to stay off the streets if possible while utility and forestry crews continue cleanup efforts.  WFD especially wants residents to avoid down wires - some of which may be hidden by down tree limbs or large piles of leaves.   If you have to drive a vehicle, we remind you to use extreme caution to avoid hazards like deep puddles, down wires and treelimbs.
