In recent years, the City of Waltham has made significant financial investments to upgrade existing athletic fields and recreational facilities. Capital funds have also been allocated to construct additional athletic fields to meet the needs and demands for superior playing conditions by organized groups for recreational and competitive sports. It is a constant challenge to balance meeting the needs of Waltham groups and necessity of time for proper maintenance.
A permit is required to receive authorization to utilize many fields by an organized group.
If you are interested in reserving a particular athletic field or facility for an organized group, completion of an application is required. The permit application explains the process and policies and procedures of the Recreation Board.

The City of Waltham’s Recreation Department has adopted the following policies regarding use of athletic fields and recreational facilities requiring a permit. Permits are required for organized groups using facilities during a fixed time period. It is the Recreation Department’s responsibility to provide the following policies and procedures that govern the use of athletic fields and recreational facilities for scheduling purposes, to help ensure responsible usage, and safety on properties under their jurisdiction.
Applications are available online, but additional information may be required once the application is submitted to the Recreation Department. Fees must be paid in full prior to receiving a permit.

3. Picnic Permit Top of Page
Picnic sites within Prospect Hill Park are available on a first come first serve basis. If you are interested in reserving a picnic site, you must obtain a picnic permit. Picnic Permits are issued between April and October during the calendar year. Picnic sites within the Park are restricted to no more than (40) people total. The base area site must be used for groups over (40). A police officer MUST be hired for groups over (50). No refunds will be given. In the event of inclement weather, we will provide an alternate date.
Rules and Regulations
- A general ordinance of the City of Waltham prohibits any kind of alcoholic beverages on City property.
- Only charcoal is to be used for cooking. No open fires.
- No hunting, trapping or shooting.
- Park is closed at dusk.

The completed picnic permit with a copy of the Applicants License must be brought to the Waltham Recreation Department's Office, 510 Moody, to be processed.
