Serious candidates only need apply. The City of Waltham is currently accepting resumes for the position of Inspector of Building/Superintendent of Public Buildings. Administers the daily operations of the department. Reviews or provides for the review of all applications for construction permits; calculates and collects applicable fees. Grant/deny all permits. Coordinates, as appropriate, review of plans and other land use matters with other City, state and federal agencies. Oversees and participates in the inspection of occupied structures, buildings under construction, alteration, repair or demolition for compliance with building, plumbing, zoning and other adopted codes or standards. Ensures that appropriate corrective actions are taken as warranted. Implements the Capital Improvement Program. Through the Director of Building Maintenance, oversees all design, construction, maintenance and repair activities of the department. Directs architectural/engineering functions related to planning, supervision and preparation of municipal projects, plans specifications, methods, materials and the application of technical solutions and resources. Reviews inspections and reports prepared by department staff to determine if the complaint or instance of potential noncompliance is founded; makes interpretive decisions; negotiates and persuades violators to bring about compliance. Prosecutes violators by testifying at trials and providing evidence to obtain search warrants. Develops and administers programs pertaining to handicapped accessibility, asbestos management, radon location and so-called sick buildings, flood control, historic preservation, and related issues. Performs administrative functions. Maintains site and construction plans for structures within the City. Performs similar or related work as situation requires or dictates. Candidates must possess the following qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree required. Master's degree in Architecture, Engineering or other related field; seven to ten years of direct construction supervision and/or inspection experience, of which five years have been in a supervisory role. Certification as Inspector of Buildings as required by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Board of Building Regulations & Standards. Commonwealth of Massachusetts Construction Supervisor's license and demonstrated experience in construction supervision. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license and a good driving history is required. Must successfully pass a (CORI), background check, and a pre-employment physical and drug test and the signing of Disclosure and Condition Form/City Council Rule 35. The salary for this position is $87,399.00 + stipend, includes excellent benefits. The position will remain open until filled. Qualified serious candidates only need apply.
