State health officials announce 1st human case of West Nile Virus in Massachusetts

Residents are urged to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites as the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) announced the first human case of West Nile virus (WNV) in the state this year. The patient is a resident of Middlesex County in her 70’s who was diagnosed with WNV through testing completed today by the Massachusetts State Public Health Laboratory. The patient remains hospitalized.
