MSBA Approves Waltham High School Request

I am very pleased to announce that at this morning’s (1/14/15) MSBA meeting in Boston, the MSBA voted the recommendation of Executive Director John K. McCarthy to invite Waltham School District into the process regarding Waltham School Committee’s Statement of Interest for Waltham High School construction.

The MA School Building Authority Board of Directors voted affirmatively to invite Waltham into the eligibility period/process.  The next steps include the Mayor appointing a School Building Committee, the School Committee hiring an OPM (project manager) and an architect.  The School Committee and School Department must come up with an educational plan that is associated with any building project for Waltham High School.

I want to thank Superintendent of Schools Dr. Susan Nicholson, Waltham High School Headmaster Gregory DeMeo, Asst. Superintendent Paul Maiorano, Administrator George Frost, Director of Facilities John Pinzone, Business Manager Leanne Wilcinski and the entire Educational Team who previously met at Waltham High School with the MA School Building Authority’s Team to substantiate the City/School’s case for funding.

Again, I thank the Waltham School Committee as well as the Waltham City Council for their support.

It is a great day for the City of Waltham’s children and educators!

Sincerely,

Mayor McCarthy
