Downtown Sidewalk Update

Project Overview:

This project involves the replacement of all sidewalks, street lighting improvements, tree planting in raised tree pits in various locations along Moody Street, and the installation of benches at bus stops along Moody and Main Street. Moody Street will be getting all brick sidewalks on both sides from High Street to Moody Street Bridge, while the remainder of Moody and Main Streets from Banks Square to the Linden Street Bridge will have concrete sidewalks with a brick feature (similar to the sidewalk in front of the former South Middle School). The sidewalks in the residential sections of Moody Street and Main Street will be completed during the day. The work will start at the Newton line and move towards High Street one side at a time.

Update as of 12/07/15: Sidewalk construction is finished for the season and will continue in the spring of 2016.

Update as of 10/16/15: Construction and tree planting continues on Moody Street sidewalks. Upon completion of Moody sidewalks the project will shift back to Main st. starting at Newton St. on the Southside section and continue to Elm St. Weather permitting.

Update as of 8/31/15: Construction continues on the West side of Moody Street sidewalks, from Maple Street to the Moody Street bridge. Upon completion of the the West side sidewalks, we will start the East side from High Street to Moody Street bridge. The trees along this side of the street have been taken down in order to repair the sidewalks. Once the sidewalks are completed, new trees will be planted along the street, as well as new street lights. Please make note that due to this work, there will be NO Parking on the West side of Moody (Odd #) from Maple Street to Moody Street bridge until 4PM.

Update as of 7/20/15:

The North side of Main Street sidewalks (Odd #) from Craven Circle to Church Street will be under construction until completion.

Update as of 7/15/15:

Construction continues on the West side of Moody Street sidewalks. The trees along this side of the street have been taken down in order to repair the sidewalks. Once the sidewalks are completed, new trees will be planted along the street, as well as new street lights. Please make note that due to this work, there will be NO Parking on the West side of Moody (Odd #) from Chestnut Street to Maple Street until 4PM.

Update as of 6/08/15:

Construction continues today (6/08) on the West side of Moody Street sidewalks, from Ash Street to Orange Street. There will be NO parking on that side of the street Monday-Friday, from 7AM-4PM. Businesses will remain open. Parking will be allowed after 4PM daily, as well as on Saturdays and Sundays. (Photos provided by Matthew Carter)
