Occupancy Inspections
Occupancy & Facility Inspections
The Waltham Fire Prevention and Suppression Divisions work together to complete inspections of various buildings throughout the City of Waltham. Fire Prevention takes the lead role in administering the quarterly inspections of the following facilities as mandated by state law:
- Hospitals
- Nursing Homes
- Lodging Houses
- Schools
- Hotels
- Residences (Smoke Detector Inspections for Sale of Property)
Additionally, Fire Prevention must inspect assembly use occupancies (theaters, sport arenas, etc.) to ensure that they are not overcrowded. The Fire Department also works with the Building Department to perform annual Liqour License Inspections.
The Fire Prevention Bureau must also conduct inspections of all occupancies for which a building permit has been issued. These inspections are conducted to ensure compliance with the approved construction documents and all state laws and codes prior to issuance of a certificate of occupancy by the building department.
