Fire Prevention Education
The Waltham Fire Department Fire Prevention Division is responsible for developing and administering a comprehensive fire and life safety education program for the residents and business people of Waltham. The goal of this program is to train people how to properly react in emergency situations and to save lives. |
Our education efforts are targeted towards people of all ages and groups, including:
- Pre-School
- Elementary School
- Middle School
- High School
- College
- Business and Industry
- Senior Citizens
Our Waltham Fire Department fire and life safety education efforts follow the framework of the larger statewide S.A.F.E. (Student Awareness of Fire Education) program. The program mission is to enable students in grades K-12 to recognize the dangers of fire and more specifically the fire hazards tobacco products pose, while instilling proper livesaving reactions to emergencies. The S.A.F.E. program also provides training for our Waltham Fire educators so they can properly teach children these critical skills. S.A.F.E. also provides resources and funding to local fire departments to conduct their fire and life safety education programs.
In Waltham, we also strive to make our education programs available in multiple languages so that we can reach all the families living in our community. Our ultimate goal is to reduce the number of fire deaths and injuries. Any questions? Contact Lt. John Ferrick (Public Education/Events & S.A.F.E. Coordinator) at 781-314-3714, or email him at jferrick@fire-dept-waltham.ma.us.
