What do I need to pull a permit?

For a new commercial construction, commercial additions, commercial alterations or commercial tenant fit-out, two sets of building plans must be submitted to the Fire Prevention Office prior to submitting to the Building Department, they will stamp both sets of plans, keep one and return the other set of plans that will then be submitted to the Building Department, these plans must be stamped by a registered architect or engineer and 2 plot plans stamped by a registered land surveyor should be submitted with your plans (If you are expanding the footprint - Commercial New and Commercial Additions). Commercial plans are required to be submitted in PDF form or a Thumb Drive

You will also need 2 plot plans stamped by a registered land surveyor (If you are expanding the footprint - Residential New & Residential Additions). Plans must be submitted in a PDF form or a Thumb Drive 

Review for Addition or Modification of Wireless Equipment an application for telecommunication installation shall be submitted with a building permit application. A cover letter stating the proposed project (in brief)listing the Federal regulation section in which the project is eligible for and a chronologic history of the special permits issued for the property. One 11x17 copy of the proposed project showing the existing and proposed conditions stamped by a registered professional engineer. A copy of the latest governing special permit issued for the facility. Completed building permit application with all required documentation for building  permit. Two sets of proposed plans stamped by a Massachusetts certified registered professional engineer. Structural analysis report for the facility stamped by a registered professional engineer. Plans must be submitted in a PDF form or a thumb drive. 

Decks and In-ground pool permits need to be submitted with 1 set of plans and 1 plot plan stamped by a registered land surveyor. An as-built will be required and the final inspection. Plans must be submitted in a PDF form or a thumb drive. 

Shed permits need a copy of the brochure, plan of land showing where the shed will be placed in the yard (5' away from the rear and side yards and 10' from the house) you may also be asked to get the Workers Comp Certificate from the installer. 

Vinyl siding permit are required to have a Wires (Electrical) permit prior to a siding permit being issued.

Roof, tent and replacement window permits consist of filling out a short application. Tent permits need to be brought to the Fire Prevention office prior to the Building Department.

Sign Permits must be submitted with a building permit application as well as a sign permit application. Each sign requires it on sign application, but all signs can be submitted on the same Building Permit Application. A CSL is not required for a Sign Permit but a professional engineer maybe required on certain applications. New ground signs require footing plans.

All applications and required documents can be submitted on regular paper.

Please be advised that the Building Department is not accepting electronic applications at this time and applications are not accepted by mail. All applications must be submitted in person at the front counter. The Building Department is located at 119 School St, 2nd Floor, Room 25.
